The Deftones

City: Seattle, WA
Place: Qwest Field

A blonde ghost of a girl drifts past in the dark.  A lilted daisy, shoulders drooping, walking slowly through the crowd to a pulsating rhythm in search of something.  Head down and smiling, eyes unfocused, as if being pulled by a thread she weaves through the dark among the movement and sweat.  I suddenly want to follow her but I know I can't possibly move that slow.  And the path she takes, sliding and stooped, would bind me as i pushed through, all angles and unsure.  So i stay, watching her fade into the wall of bodies, as a familiar song pierces the moment.  Arms and fists burst up through the thick air with a roar to challenge a thousand lions.  The Deftones are in town and we are here.  One way or another, we are all here.

Check out Deftones frontman Chino Moreno's side-project Team Sleep here and here.

Yogoman Burning Band

City: Bellingham, WA
Place: Nightlight Lounge, Chestnut St
Reason: Support local music, get our dance on, make eyes at attractive band members

Neon lights bounce off grey brick walls, catching the shine of vodka, whiskey and rum. Pulsing rhythms race as sweat rolls down the small of your back. Beats reminiscent of Bob Marley … 50’s shoo-wop-doo-wop … skank to ska, horns blowing. A candy orange jumpsuit tracks around the stage - Napoleon Dynomite meets Rivers Coumo. The crowd grows larger as the music grows louder. We’re all out tonight – hipsters and hippies, scenesters and preps, punk rockers and Rastafarians . Take a breath and look around - we join together in stomping feet and swaying hips, smiles and screams to words we may not know.  Yogoman Burning Band winds their energy deep within our souls, taking us to a place we love to go, but too often forget about.
